KSP: Jokowi Shares Excellent Chemistry With G7 Leaders, Promises World Peace

Jakarta – The Senior Advisor of the Executive Office of the President (KSP), Siti Ruhaini Dzuhayatin, said that a display of excellent chemistry between President Joko Widodo with world leaders at the G7 Summit showcases a recognition towards Indonesia as a strategic partner in global peace. Further, it symbolizes trust from leaders of the world’s advanced economies, particularly from the US as one of the biggest Western allies.

“The friendly and warm meeting raises optimism towards President Jokowi’s mission to Ukraine and Russia,” said Ruhaini, at the Bina Graha building, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/6).

President Jokowi was set to visit the warring countries to meet Ukrainian President Vladymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin separately.

The President has called for peace, cease-fire and peace negotiations. Indonesia has been focusing on the humanitarian crises caused by the war: deaths of civilians, refugee problems, as well as food and energy crises. Moreover, the war has created severe damage while the world has not fully recovered from the pandemic crisis.

Ruhaini added the warm welcome towards President Jokowi at the G7 summit would strengthen the mission and pave the way for the Russia-Ukraine negotiations process. She went on to say that it posed the right timing for Indonesia as the holder of the G20 Presidency to showcase the country’s resilience in dealing with the pandemic fallout and the global crisis that follows.

“President Jokowi is using the Indonesian G20 Presidency to play a strategic role in promoting world peace,” she said.

Beyond that, continued Ruhaini, President Jokowi has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to ending war as mandated by the Indonesian constitution. Not only that Indonesia should actively maintaining world peace, the country should also maintaining the legacy Non-Block principle advocating independence, opposing apartheid, and rejecting any military pact. .

“In addition, the independent and active foreign policy allows Indonesia to build ties with any country in maintaining world order, including Russia and Ukraine,” explained Ruhaini.

The Professor of Human Rights and Gender at Sunan Kalijaga Islamic State University (UIN Sunan Kalijaga) also assessed that Russia’s acceptance of President Jokowi’s visit also signaled a good relationship between the two nations. Despite Indonesia’s disagreement towards the war started by Russia, Indonesia decided to scold Russia for a greater good like a “true friend”.

“We all hope that the President’s visit will stimulate global peace and the two countries shall pursue a sustainable peace,” she concluded.
