Moeldoko : Sanur Beach Port Traffic Need to End

Denpasar –  The Chief of Staff to the President, Dr. Moeldoko emphasized that traffic jams in Sanur Beach Port need to be solved immediately, because the tourism area is increasing and getting a lot of complaints from the tourists.

As known before, the long jam frequently happened in the Sanur Port area due to limited drop-off area and parking spaces within the ports. This condition is exacerbated by the rampant illegal parking within the area. Density and queues of vehicles on the main road are also impactful to the traffic jam in the area, especially during the departure and arrival times.

“These problems are very disturbing and get the most complaints by the tourists, so that we need immediate solutions, moreover the numbers of passengers will increase in the future,” said Moeldoko during his working visit to Sanur Beach Port, Friday (22/9).

According to Moeldoko, there are several ways to end this congestion. First, carrying out traffic management around the port, also to alert more personnel during the busy time so that the mobilization will go smoothly. Second, add more parking areas in the port area, for example park buildings. “With limited land available, it can be done this way (multi-storey building). Also, try to collaborate with the community,” he said.

Apart from that, Moeldoko added, preparing public transportation like shuttle or feeder buses to reduce the use of private vehicles. “KSP could help to find the solution, including coordinating any supporting requirements between the Minister of Transportation and the regional government,” he said.

Moeldoko said that the construction and operation of Sanur Port represents the face of Indonesian tourism. For this reason, he conveyed that management should be done collaboratively between the central and regional government. So that the goal of developing and operating one of the National Strategic Project (PSN) is truly achieved, namely improving the welfare of society.

“I assure you that the aim of this PSN (Sanur Port) is to bring prosperity, not misery. The presence of KSP is to make sure that the PSN truly achieves its focus,” Moeldoko concluded.

As information, Sanur Port is included as one of the 161 PSN that have already declared.  Since its inauguration by President Joko Widodo on November, 9 2022, this port was built on 10 hectares of land, and has served 2,7 million passengers, or 8.000 to 10.000 passengers per day. This number is expected to increase as Bali recovers from Covid-19 pandemic era.
