More Than Just A Priority, Moeldoko: Nusantara Capital City Is A Super Priority

Jakarta – Nusantara Capital City (IKN) is more than just a priority, it is deemed as a superpriority by the Chief of Staff to the President Dr. Moeldoko. He, therefore, called on extraordinary efforts, more thorough preparation, more sustainable supervision and stronger collaboration.

As he chaired the coordination meeting on IKN’s development and communication strategies, in Jakarta, Friday (8/4), he quoted the construction of the new capital city as an effort to enhance social justice for all Indonesian people. “This is a complicated job that might take a very long time, approximately 5 to 20 years. It requires strict planning, detailed execution, rigid and sustainable supervision, inclusive and transparent public communication, ” said Moeldoko.

The Executive Office of the President (KSP) in collaboration with other related ministries and institutions will supervise the first phase of the IKN development.

Attended the meeting were Agrarian and Spatial Minister Sofyan Djali, Communications and Information Minister Johnny G. Plate, Deputy Head of the new capital city authority Dhony Rahajoe, Governor of East Kalimantan Isran Noor, and some representatives from the Finance Ministry, the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry, and the Environment and Forestry Ministry.

The IKN’s infrastructure development would soon be carried out, Moeldoko reassured. He specifically detailed that the infrastructure development would start from the construction of road access from and to the IKN area, the establishment of raw water intake lines, drainage channels and flood control system. It would be continued with the construction of government offices and its supporting facilities, namely the Presidential State Palace and Coordinating Ministerial office.

“Forestland release and mining pit rehabilitation surrounding the IKN area will soon be done. This is a crucial preparation point in the development phase, as we undergo the construction of the Mentawir nursery as well,” explained Moeldoko.

The government will first issue a derivative regulation of the Priority IKN Law, which will then be followed with infrastructure development.

“We hope that the derivative regulations of the priority IKN Law can immediately be issued, so that the IKN infrastructure development can run on an accountable basis,” he concluded.
