Jakarta – Deputy V of the Executive Office of the President, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani highlighted equality as an important aspect during President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo opening remarks at the opening ceremony of 43rd ASEAN Summit and Other Summits on Tuesday (5/7).
The President said that the entire ASEAN family share the same value of harmony and deliver it through the ASEAN Summit theme, “Epicentrum of Growth” also “Epicentrum of Harmony”. As well as, ASEAN country members could maintain their unity amid increasingly complex global challenges. So far, Indonesia through its ASEAN Chairmanship this year has striven and upheld equality in ASEAN as a the role of “stabilizer” amid global geopolitical tensions.
“Equality is relevant due to its fundamental aspect, if any tension happens, ASEAN will try to resolve it with meditative and solutive manners,” said Jalesawari in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/9).
She pointed out that diversity in Indonesia was a main factor to strengthen the country despite dividing it. Indonesia is holding its chairmanship in the ASEAN Summit 2023 with the vision to build a resilient, adaptive and inclusive ASEAN alongside with the value of equality. “We want to show an approach based on Indonesia’s diverse national experience, including ethnicity, culture, language and religion with full equality, that it can become one national strength,” adds Jaleswari.
Jaleswari confirmed the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta is a good momentum to voice peace and prosperity amidst various global threats and conflict as a result of inequality. Therefore, equality has in fact become the primary value that is upheld by ASEAN.
Indonesia’s leadership at the 43rd ASEAN Summit contains four main spirits. Firstly, the importance of outline a long-term vision of the Region, second is to strengthen ASEAN’s resilience in facing the challenges of the time. Thirdly, is to promote ASEAN as the center of economic growth. And, the last spirit is to realize the safe and peaceful Indo-Pacific regions.
“As the President said at this year’s State Address, Indonesia’s international trust is currently very high. This is gained through hard work, demonstrating Indonesia’s pluck in taking action rather than just being mere rhetoric. Also, Indonesia will maintain ASEAN as a neutral, safe and peaceful region,” she concluded.
