Jakarta – Indonesia’s chairmanship in 43rd ASEAN Summit carrying the theme ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth), The Chief of Staff to the President, Dr. Moeldoko confirmed that it is not only a slogan but it could be implemented.
Moeldoko said ASEAN member countries have big modality to be an epicentrum of growth. First, with its growing ASEAN’s population is potentially beneficial to make ASEAN as a playmaker in the global market. Second, with high international trust to ASEAN member countries will continue to realize concrete cooperation with other fellow countries.
“Both become social assets that need to be managed in order to fulfill the epicentrum of growth,” said Moeldoko at 43rd ASEAN Summit Media Center, Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday (7/9).
To accomplish ASEAN as an epicentrum of growth, said Moeldoko, ASEAN should further strengthen regional cooperation as well as exchange ideas and practices of digital economy and green economy that have been implemented across ASEAN countries.
To accomplish ASEAN as the epicentrum of growth, Moeldoko refers to the transformation of digital economy and green economy. He also mentioned in the Indonesia’s 42nd ASEAN Chairmanship in Labuan Bajo, May 2023, all country members agreed to strengthen their collaboration in order to develop electrical vehicles as one of the vision to actualize the green economy. This agreement is contained in ASEAN Leaders Declarations.
Moeldoko also pointed out four points from the declaration. Namely, make ASEAN as global hub production for the electrical vehicle industry, to build an integrated electrical vehicle ecosystem, to support the energy transition and make ASEAN as the epicentrum if growth.
“These visions are realized through several cooperation. Such as a production hub and roadmap to develop electrical vehicles in the region,” he added.
Indonesia’s stands itself, Moeldoko added, is very strategic. Indonesia’s owned largest nickel ore in the world. The government continuously pushes a concrete program of nickel downstream policy, so that it can be used as the primary component of battery cells in electrical vehicles as well as it could be beneficial for the country.
“For this reason, Indonesia and ASEAN continue to encourage and strengthen cooperation with China, Japan and South Korea in order to develop the electrical vehicle ecosystem,” he concluded.
