Jakarta – The Executive Office of the President (KSP) reaffirmed President Joko Widodo’s unwavering dedication to fostering a climate that welcomes constructive criticism.
The KSP underscored the government’s commitment to promoting freedom of expression and open dialogue, encouraging individuals and groups to provide feedback on the nation’s development processes. The Office also expressed disappointment towards any form of intimidation or the adoption of an anti-criticism stance by both individuals and societal factions directed at the government.
“Criticism is a fundamental aspect of a thriving democracy and is protected by the country’s laws. As long as criticism does not constitute defamation or the propagation of hate speech, it should be embraced,” said Joanes Joko, Senior Advisor to KSP on Saturday (15/4). “President Jokowi and the KSP firmly believe that constructive criticism plays a vital role in the government’s pursuit of continuous improvement.”
Joko further elaborated on the government’s proactive approach, stating that the Jokowi administration consistently prioritizes the evaluation of public input to augment its efforts in enhancing public service provisions. The government aims to filter and incorporate valuable feedback, considering it as a valuable resource and a catalyst for positive change.
Joko’s statement was prompted by recent allegations of intimidation by local governments and law enforcement agencies towards Bima Yudho, a prominent young figure who voiced concerns regarding the development process in his birth province of Lampung.
Joko conveyed his support for Yudho and encouraged him to persist in his love for his homeland and Indonesia as a whole. He urged Yudho and other citizens to continue providing valid criticism fearlessly, emphasizing that the KSP, within reasonable bounds, stands ready to offer support.
Joko asserted that constructive criticism arises from genuine care and concern, stating that people would not engage in criticism if they were indifferent. He stressed the importance of local and central governments acknowledging and valuing such feedback, considering it as an essential component of effective governance.
Furthermore, the KSP, under the leadership of Moeldoko, the Chief of Staff to the President, continues to uphold President Jokowi’s commitment to embracing constructive criticism. The KSP Mendengar program exemplifies this commitment by actively seeking input and criticism from various segments of society, not only accepting feedback but also personally engaging with communities across different regions. The program aims to foster a collaborative environment, where feedback is seen as crucial for the collective well-being of the nation.
Joko reiterated that the government stands resolute in its dedication to democratic principles and encouraged citizens to actively participate in the nation-building process. By embracing constructive criticism, the government aspires to further enhance its responsiveness, transparency, and accountability, ultimately striving to build a better Indonesia for all its citizens.
